The short version
- ▸On the web, X Premium costs $3 a month for Basic ($32 a year), $8 for Premium ($84 a year), and $40 for Premium+ ($395 a year), per X's own Premium page accessed 2026-09-15.
- ▸Subscribing inside the iPhone app costs more: Apple's listing shows $4, $11 and $50 a month. Premium+ bought in-app runs $120 a year above the web price.
- ▸The checkmark, reduced ads and monetization eligibility start at the $8 Premium tier. Basic gets none of them, including no ad reduction.
- ▸Premium+ is the only tier with SuperGrok, an ad-free experience across most of X, the largest reply prioritization, and access to X Pro (the old TweetDeck).
- ▸Annual billing saves about 11% on Basic, 12% on Premium and 18% on Premium+, so the yearly plan is the real discount lever, not a coupon.
The short answer on X Premium price
X Premium has three tiers, and on the web they cost $3 a month for Basic, $8 for Premium, and $40 for Premium+, billed annually at $32, $84 and $395 (About X Premium, accessed 2026-09-15). Everything people associate with paying for X (formerly Twitter) starts at the $8 tier: the checkmark, fewer ads, monetization eligibility. Basic is a features-only tier with no checkmark and no ad reduction. Premium+ at $40 is the Grok and reach tier, and it is now the only way into X Pro.
Buy it in a browser. The same subscriptions inside the iPhone app are $4, $11 and $50 a month on Apple's own listing.
X Premium tiers and prices, side by side
Web prices come from X's Premium help page; app prices come from Apple's US App Store listing for the X app. Both checked on 2026-09-15.
| Tier | Web monthly | Web annual | iPhone monthly | iPhone annual |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $3 | $32 | $4 | $42 |
| Premium | $8 | $84 | $11 | $114.99 |
| Premium+ | $40 | $395 | $50 | $490 |
Two numbers in that table decide most purchases.
The first is the annual discount. Paying monthly for a year costs $36, $96 and $480; the annual plans cost $32, $84 and $395. That is roughly 11%, 12% and 18% off. Premium+ has by far the steepest annual discount, which tells you where X wants the commitment.
The second is the app-store markup. Premium+ bought on an iPhone is $10 a month more, $120 a year, for an identical product. On the annual plan the gap is $95. Nothing about the subscription changes; you are paying the platform fee that Apple charges X, which X passes on.
What each tier actually includes
X publishes the split by tier, and the important line is where the checkmark and the ads change.
Basic ($3 a month) covers quality-of-life features: edit post, longer posts, longer video uploads, text formatting, bookmark folders, custom app icons, and the smallest reply prioritization. No checkmark. And per X's own Premium FAQ (accessed 2026-09-15), Premium Basic does not offer a removed or reduced ads experience. If you were buying the cheap tier to see fewer ads, it does not do that.
Premium ($8 a month) is everything in Basic plus the blue checkmark, roughly 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines, larger reply prioritization, ID verification, Media Studio, Articles for long-form posts, and the ability to apply for Original Content Rewards and Creator Subscriptions. This is the tier that the phrase "paying for X" usually means. If you want the checkmark explained on its own, see how to get verified on X.
Premium+ ($40 a month) adds SuperGrok access, the Grok Bot, an ad-free experience across most of X, the largest reply prioritization on the platform, and Radar. It also became the only route to X Pro, the multi-column view formerly called TweetDeck, when X moved it behind the Premium+ paywall in March 2026. That change alone pushed a lot of power users from $8 to $40, which is worth knowing before you assume X Pro comes with a normal subscription. We tracked what that did to the old free product in is TweetDeck still free.
X Premium vs Premium+: the honest decision
The gap between the two is $32 a month, or $311 a year on annual billing. That is not a small upgrade, so treat it as a real purchase rather than a rounding error.
Pick Premium if what you want is credibility and monetization eligibility. The checkmark, the reply prioritization, the ad reduction, Articles, and the application path to revenue share cover almost everything a working creator needs. At $84 a year it is the cheapest useful tier on the platform.
Pick Premium+ if at least one of these is true: you use Grok heavily enough that SuperGrok replaces another AI subscription, you need X Pro's multi-column workflow, or maximum reply prioritization is worth $395 a year to you because X is your main distribution channel. Note the substitution argument is the strongest one. If Premium+ retires a $20 to $30 monthly AI bill, its real cost drops a lot.
Skip both if you are not posting. No tier makes an inactive account visible. Reply prioritization only ranks replies you actually write.
X Premium price by country
X sets local prices per market rather than converting dollars, so the number you see depends on where your account is billed. Apple publishes exact in-app prices per storefront, which is the most reliable dated source for non-US figures. From the X app listings on 2026-09-15:
| Market | Basic (monthly) | Premium (monthly) | Premium+ (monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States (listing) | $4 | $11 | $50 |
| Japan (listing) | ¥450 | ¥1,270 | ¥8,000 |
| India (listing) | ₹170 | ₹470 | ₹4,999 |
Those are in-app prices, so they already include the platform markup. Web prices in each market run lower, the same way $8 on the web becomes $11 in the app in the US. Annual in-app plans follow the same pattern: Japan is ¥4,500 for Basic and ¥12,700 for Premium, India is ₹1,700 and ₹4,700.
Avoid any article that quotes a single global conversion. X reprices markets independently, and the only figure you can trust for your own account is the one on the Premium screen at checkout.
Does X Premium pay for itself?
Only through use, and the math is simple enough to run before you buy.
At $8 a month, Premium costs $96 a year on monthly billing. Monetization on X pays on ad views inside your replies and on creator subscriptions, both of which scale with how often you show up in other people's conversations. We keep the current numbers in how much X pays for views and the qualification bar in X monetization requirements. If you reply daily and post a few times a week, clearing $96 a year is realistic. If you are on X twice a month, it is not, and no tier changes that.
The top tier is harder to justify on monetization alone at $480 a year monthly. It justifies itself on substitution (SuperGrok instead of a separate AI plan, X Pro instead of a third-party dashboard) or on reach, if you can point to what the extra reach earns you.
Before you upgrade, it is worth knowing which parts of X are free. Is X free covers what a $0 account still gets, and how to turn off ads on X covers the ad question without a subscription. Teams and brands should compare against X Premium Business, which is priced per seat and aimed at organizations rather than individuals.
The part a subscription cannot buy
A subscription changes how X ranks what you write. It does not write anything. The reply prioritization that you are paying for only applies to replies that exist, and that is where most paid accounts quietly waste the money: the boost is on, the account posts three times a week, and the extra visibility lands on almost nothing.
That gap is the job X-Autopilot does. It runs a real Chrome browser on your own Mac, signed into your own session, and keeps up a steady rhythm of on-brand replies and posts so a boosted account is actually producing something to boost. It is a one-time purchase (list price $199) rather than another monthly seat, and you can see the current price on the pricing section.
Two honest caveats. Automating engagement through a browser is a gray area rather than a sanctioned API path, so read X's Automation rules and decide for yourself. And no tool removes account risk: what a local tool offers is a smaller detection surface than cloud schedulers acting from shared IP pools, not immunity.
How to subscribe without overpaying
Open x.com in a browser, not the app. Click More in the left sidebar, then Premium, and compare the three tiers on the screen that loads. Pick the tier, choose annual if you already know you will keep it for a year, and pay.
If you are already subscribed through the App Store and want the web price, cancel the Apple subscription first, let it run to the end of the paid period, then resubscribe on the web. Do not buy the web plan while the in-app one is live or you will pay twice for the same month.
One last thing worth doing before any upgrade: check whether your posts are worth boosting. Paste a draft into the free Tweet Grader and see how it scores. A better post on a free account beats a weak post with a checkmark, every time.

How much does X Premium cost per month in 2026?+
On the web, Basic is $3 a month, Premium is $8 a month, and Premium+ is $40 a month, or $32, $84 and $395 a year (X Premium help page, accessed 2026-09-15). Local currency prices differ by market, and buying through the iOS or Android app costs more.
How much is X Premium+ in 2026?+
X Premium+ is $40 a month or $395 a year on the web. Through the iPhone app, Apple's App Store listing shows $50 a month or $490 a year (accessed 2026-09-15), so the in-app route costs $120 more per year on monthly billing.
What is the difference between X Premium and Premium+?+
Premium ($8) gives you the checkmark, about 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines, larger reply prioritization, ID verification, Media Studio, Articles, and the right to apply for Original Content Rewards and Creator Subscriptions. Premium+ ($40) adds SuperGrok, Grok Bot, an ad-free experience across most of X, the largest reply prioritization, Radar, and X Pro access.
Does X Premium Basic remove ads?+
No. X's own Premium FAQ states that Premium Basic does not offer a removed or reduced ads experience. Ad reduction starts at the $8 Premium tier (about 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines), and only Premium+ is ad-free across most of X.
Is X Premium cheaper on the web than in the app?+
Yes. Apple and Google take a cut of in-app subscriptions and X prices around it. Comparing X's web prices with Apple's US App Store listing on 2026-09-15: Basic $3 vs $4, Premium $8 vs $11, Premium+ $40 vs $50 a month. Subscribe at x.com in a browser to pay the lower rate.
Is X Premium worth it for creators?+
It depends on whether you post enough for the reply prioritization to matter. If you reply daily and publish regularly, the $8 Premium tier usually earns its cost back through visibility and monetization eligibility. If you post twice a month, no tier fixes that, and Premium+ at $480 a year on monthly billing is a large bet on a habit you have not built yet.
