X analytics: how to read your native dashboard in 2026

X analytics in 2026: what the free per-post stats show, what moved behind X Premium, how to open the account dashboard, and which numbers actually predict growth.

The short version

  • Per-post analytics stayed free for every account: tap any post to see impressions, engagements, profile visits, link clicks and bookmarks. That is enough to answer the one starter question that matters - which posts sent people to your profile.
  • The account-level dashboard (28-day trends, top posts, follower change over time) now sits behind X Premium on desktop. If you only want per-post numbers, you do not need to pay.
  • Impressions are the vanity number; profile visits and the visit-to-follow rate are the growth numbers. Most accounts leak followers at the profile, not at reach.
  • X analytics tells you WHAT happened, never WHY. The moment your question becomes 'which reply earned that follower?', native data runs out and you need a tool that logs actions.

Quick answer

X analytics splits in two in 2026. Per-post stats - impressions, engagements, profile visits, link clicks, bookmarks - are free on every account. The account-level dashboard with 28-day trends, top posts and follower change moved behind X Premium on desktop. For most people the free per-post view is enough; you only pay when you want the historical rollups. The rest of this guide reads each number and says which ones predict growth.

X (formerly Twitter) reshuffled where analytics lives more than once in the last two years, so start by knowing which door you are walking through.

Where X analytics actually lives now

Two surfaces, two access levels:

  • Per-post analytics (free, all accounts). Open any of your own posts and tap the small bar-chart icon, or the "View post analytics" link. No subscription needed, on web or in the app.
  • Account analytics dashboard (X Premium, desktop). The 28-day overview, top-post ranking and follower-change chart. Reach it at x.com/i/account_analytics, or More -> Creator Studio -> Analytics. This sits behind X Premium, which starts at 8 US dollars a month on the web per the X Help Center (accessed August 2026).

If you have never paid for Premium and only see per-post numbers, nothing is broken. That is the current free tier.

What the per-post numbers mean

Tap into one post and you get a short list. Here is what each line is really telling you.

| Metric | What it counts | What it tells you | |---|---|---| | Impressions | Times the post was on a screen | Raw reach - how far it travelled | | Engagements | All interactions totalled | Whether reach turned into action | | Likes / reposts / replies | Each interaction type | Which kind of response you earned | | Profile visits | People who tapped your name | Genuine interest in you, not the post | | Link clicks | Taps on your link | Intent to leave X for your thing | | Bookmarks | Quiet saves | Reference value - the strongest keep signal |

Two of these deserve more weight than the rest. Bookmarks are the quietest and most honest: someone valued the post enough to keep it. Profile visits are the growth pivot, which is the next section.

The one number that predicts followers

Profile visits, then follows per visit.

Impressions can spike on a reply that rode a big account's thread and left nothing behind. Profile visits are different: someone chose to tap your name and see who you are. That is intent. If your visits are climbing while your follower count stays flat, the leak is not your reach - it is your profile. That is a bio and pinned post problem, and it is the cheapest growth fix on the platform because you change two things once and every future visitor sees them.

So the loop is: reach earns visits, visits earn follows, and only the second arrow is under your direct control day to day. Watch the visit-to-follow rate the way a shop watches the ratio of window-shoppers to buyers.

Where native X analytics stops

Native data answers WHAT happened. It cannot answer three questions that matter more:

  1. Compared to what? Each post is shown alone. The free view will not rank your last 90 days or tell you whether Tuesday threads beat Friday one-liners. You would export and chart that yourself.
  2. When should I post? There is no best-time analysis built in. For that you need your own posting history mapped against engagement - our best-time-to-tweet tool does this from your pattern rather than a generic chart.
  3. What earned this follower? The follower graph shows totals, never causes. It cannot show that one specific reply in one specific thread brought 17 people.

That third gap is the expensive one, because attribution is the only metric that tells you what to repeat.

Free dashboard versus paid tools

You do not need to pay for analytics until you have a question the free data cannot answer. Here is the honest split.

| You want... | Use | Cost | |---|---|---| | Per-post reach and profile visits | X native, per-post | Free | | 28-day trends and top-post ranking | X Premium dashboard | From 8 USD/mo | | Post comparison over time, best-time | A scheduler's analytics or a dedicated tool | Varies | | Which action earned which follower | An action-logging tool | Varies |

The last row is the one native analytics can never close, because it aggregates the follower count and throws away the cause. Closing it means logging every reply and like, then diffing your follower list to attribute new followers to the action that likely earned them. That attribution loop is exactly what X-Autopilot is built around: if you grow mainly by replying, the link between an action and a follower is the signal the native dashboard never gives you. Reading the account dashboard (if you have Premium)

If you do pay for the Premium dashboard, the extra value is trend, not raw numbers. Three views earn the subscription:

  • The 28-day summary. Impressions, engagements, profile visits and follows as a rolling total with a change arrow versus the previous 28 days. The arrow matters more than the number: a big account with a red arrow is shrinking, a tiny account with a green one is winning.
  • Top posts. Your best-performing posts of the period, ranked. This is the fastest way to spot the format that works, because it surfaces the pattern you would otherwise have to reconstruct post by post.
  • Follower change over time. A line you can read for cause: a step up on a specific day usually maps to a specific post or reply you can go find and repeat.

What the dashboard still will not give you is attribution at the action level, which is why even Premium users hit the same ceiling described above.

A ten-minute weekly routine

You do not need Premium to run this. Per-post data is enough.

  1. Rank last week's posts by engagement rate, not impressions. High reach with low engagement usually means the algorithm tested a post and readers passed.
  2. Find the profile-visit outliers. Whatever made strangers tap your name is the thing to make more of.
  3. Check visit-to-follow conversion. New follows divided by profile visits. If it falls, fix the profile before touching the content.
  4. Repeat one thing, drop one thing. One experiment a week is enough to read cause and effect. Five at once is noise.

The test for any number in your X analytics: did it change what you posted this week? A dashboard you admire but never act on is decoration.

When the dashboard is the wrong focus

Under roughly 500 followers, the samples are too small for per-post analysis to mean much - one lucky reply doubles your weekly numbers. At that stage the data-driven move is almost funny: ignore the charts, post and reply consistently for a month, then look for patterns. Building the raw follower base comes first; measurement pays off once there is something to measure.

Frequently asked

Answers indexed by Google + AI assistants.

Is X analytics free?+

Per-post analytics are free for every account: open any of your posts and tap 'View post analytics' to see impressions, engagements, profile visits, link clicks and bookmarks. The full account-level dashboard - 28-day summaries, top-post rankings and follower trends - now requires an X Premium subscription on desktop, which starts at 8 US dollars a month on the web.

How do I open the X analytics dashboard?+

On desktop with X Premium, go to x.com/i/account_analytics, or click More in the left sidebar, then Creator Studio, then Analytics. Per-post analytics need no subscription: tap the bar-chart icon under any of your own posts in the app or on the web.

What is a good engagement rate on X?+

Engagement rate is engagements divided by impressions. It swings widely by account size and format, so the number to beat is your own baseline. Rank your last 30 posts by engagement rate and study the top five rather than chasing a universal figure.

Which X metric matters most for growth?+

Profile visits, then follows per visit. Impressions measure reach, profile visits measure interest, and the visit-to-follow rate tells you whether your bio and pinned post convert that interest. Rising visits with flat follows is a profile problem, not a content problem.

Can X analytics show who unfollowed me?+

No. Native analytics reports follower counts, not the names behind a change. Third-party tools infer unfollows by snapshotting your follower list over time and comparing it, so their accuracy depends on how often they check.
