The honest risk: this account hit an X verification challenge
The stat. The account behind this dataset was, at one point, served an X human-verification challenge — the platform flagged it for a "prove you're human" check. Automating engagement on X is a terms-of-service gray area, and this is the most important caveat attached to the entire study: the data was generated by software doing things X doesn't officially sanction.
How it was measured. This isn't a metric, it's a documented incident. A post-incident audit traced the dominant ban-risk signals to behavior, not browser fingerprint — primarily volume (too many actions per day) and 24/7 activity (no human sleep window). The product was then rebuilt to be conservative: human-like pacing, a real sleep window, lower daily volume caps, and weekend scaling — explicitly trading growth speed for a lower detection profile.
The honest caveat. There's no caveat to soften here — this is the caveat for everything else. Faster growth and lower detection risk are in direct tension: volume is a server-side count X can measure regardless of how human your timing looks, so there's a hard ceiling on how aggressive any automation can safely be. One challenge on one account isn't a controlled study of ban risk either; it's a single real signal that informed a conservative posture.
The tactic it implies. Be candid with yourself about the trade-off. If you automate any part of your X engagement, the right posture is human pace, human hours, human volume — the boring, conservative settings — not the aggressive ones that grow fastest on paper. The accounts that get challenged are the ones that act like machines: round-the-clock, high-volume, relentless. Whatever you take from this study, the meta-lesson is that sustainable beats fast, because an account that gets locked grows at exactly zero.
